The Core Commander is a boss fought within the The Desert of Beginnings. They are the final story boss of Core Keeper. He requires all 6 souls from the previeous bosses to start his fight.
Behavior[edit]
At the beginning of the fight, three cores will be spawned orbiting far from the boss. To harm Core Commander, all of the three cores that he summons must be taken out. After doing so, the boss will stagger and become vulnerable while losing the ability to attack. After each core is destroyed, they will launch five lightning ball bursts every few seconds.
The Core Commander has three different kinds of attacks during phase 1:
-Summons lightning bolts near the player, with 4 different patterns. All these attacks will stay around the location at which they were summoned, and will not follow the player's movement.
Surrounds the player with a circle of lightning bolts, with an opening in a random direction. The lightning bolts will orbit around for a short period and close in.
Summons two rows of lightning bolts above and below the player, with an opening on both of the rows. The lightning bolts will quickly close in after a brief delay.
Summons a total of three groups of three lightning bolts that close in on the player.
Summons a single lightning bolt that closes in on the player at a relatively fast speed.
-Periodically summons numerous purple whirlwinds that pull in nearby players. After a whirlwind deals damage to the player, it will disappear. The summon location of whirlwinds is indicated by glowing runes on the ground.
-Fires three triangular projectiles that directly home in on the player and deal high damage. They dissipate upon hitting a block or after several seconds.
After depleting Core Commander's health, it restores to full health, becomes the "Unleashed Core Commander", and enters its second phase.
During this phase, Core Commanders will gain a buff to his lighting attack, making them move twice as fast, as well as his wirlwind attack now being able to spawn at a further distance from the boss. In addition to attacks from phase 1, the Core Commander gains a new attack: informed by a striking sound, the Core Commander turns space around it into void, leaving three massive circular safe zones.
Staying in the void inflicts the player with a debuff that damages the player at a rate of 20% health per second, forcing the player to stay in the safe zones. The same lightning bolt and whirlwind attacks used in phase 1 (except the single lightning bolt attack) will be performed around all the safe zones. The safe zone will shrink in size over time, starting rapidly before slowing down, eventually to a radius of about only 1 tile, then this attack ends. If the Core Commander is paralyzed during this attack, the attack will end immediately.
Summoning[edit]
The Core Commander can be summoned for the first time by interacting with and shattering the Crystal Meteor after obtaining all six boss souls.
Once defeated, they can be re-summoned by placing a
Core Commander Summoning Idol on the rune inside the meteor.
